Microblog 5: A Whole New Book

So recently I've been reading a new book called The Devil in the White City. So far, I'm actually enjoying the book. It has a surprising amount of suspense, despite the book being nonfiction. The story starts out with two different points of view: One perspective is from an architect and another is from a murderer who lures people into his hotel. Eventually, these two people are going to meet each other, but as of now it seems as though their paths are far from intertwined.

Image result for learning memeThe biggest struggle so far has been reading a book with vocabulary from the late 1800s. This may not seem like THAT big of a deal (it didn't to me at first either), but after reading about 30 pages I have looked up about two words per page. To be honest, describing people as having "an acerbic candor" gets on my nerves when it happens so frequently. At least I get to learn new words?

Aaaaaanyway, one of the most interesting things that I have seen so far has been the way that each person views the city of Chicago. The book describes these views as the White City and Black City, since Burnham (the architect) is trying to design the World's Fair and sees the bustling environment as promising for the future while Holmes sees the World's Fair as attractive to young women who want to come to the "big city" for the first time.

This book is already more interesting than the last, so that's good!
